Geek Pranks
Geek pranks… they keep our sanity while driving our co-workers, friends and family insane. From netsend messages to blue screen of death screen savers and a few others that have brought all geeks hours of pure entertainment here’s a few of my favorite pranks to play on poor unsuspecting victims ![]()
One of my personal favorites and easiest to do pranks is NET SEND messages. NET SEND is a Windows tool that allows you to send official looking messages from one computer to another as long as they are on the same network. All you need to do is open up a command utility and enter: net send ‘computer name’ message. To make it look even more realistic, at least to the unknowing target, change your computer name to something official looking like Microsoft.
Install a Blue Screen of Death screen saver available from Microsoft (ironically). Make your victim’s computer show the BSoD when ever their screen saver turns on. You can down load it from here. You can also take a screen shot of their current desktop, set the image as a background, disable the toolbar and hide the icons (right-click on the desktop go to arrange icons and uncheck Show desktop icons) and watch them click like mad on icons they think are really there.
Got someone that loves to call you at all hours of the night??? Wanna get a little payback without getting yourself in trouble for dropping prank calls? Check out a free wake up service provided by Wakerupper. Schedule a call for anytime/date that you think would be appropriate, enter in a text message and they’ll receive a text-to-speech call at the desired time.
Got a boss that recently picked up a new laptop with a fancy wide screen LCD monitor? Want to see them really freak out? Download the broken LCD monitor wall paper, set it to the desktop wall paper and hide the tool bar and icons. Sit back and quietly giggle while they freak out.
